2nd Ave. subway exiles $core big

The MTA will shell out hefty stipends for renters being temporarily relocated from 28 apartments along the Second Avenue subway-construction route.

Residents at seven different apartment buildings will have an option to set up at the Hotel Marmara at 94th Street and Second Avenue — or take a daily stipend for room and board.

Those who choose the second option will get checks for $4,810 a month for a studio apartment, $6,000 a month for a one-bedroom, and $9,000 a month for a two-bedroom, the agency said yesterday, as it prepares to do critical repair work on the structures.

The MTA’s total cost for relocating tenants and shoring up the buildings is about $6 million to $8 million — out of a $4.5 billion project.

The agency is doing the work itself instead of possibly waiting years for building owners to make the fixes.

The MTA will also pay the relocated residents $40 per day per household member as a food allowance for the duration of the displacement — expected to last between four to eight weeks — and moving and storage costs.

Relocations will begin on Saturday for buildings around East 94th Street.

The hotel’s location was chosen so renters can remain in the area, stay close to their homes, and also patronize local businesses, said MTA spokesman Aaron Donovan.

Some renters were ready to take the lump sum.

“If I can find a reasonably priced apartment in the neighborhood for the short-term, it’d be great and I can save money,” said Trish Djojo, 30.

Others said they wouldn’t mind a stretch at the hotel.

“The hotel is easy. Why go for all the hassle,” said construction worker Shannon Campbell, 35.
