Report: Brodeur doubts Devils would ever trade him

The Devils are not looking into trading Martin Brodeur in exchange for a first-line center, according to NJ.com.

The report says, “Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello today emphatically denied that there have been any discussions by management about the possibility of trading Brodeur.”

A rumored deal to Washington would bring Alexander Semin in exchange and possibly help the Devils re-sign Ilya Kovalchuk.

“As far as Ilya Kovalchuk signing with the Devils if they get Semin, that would undoubtedly help those chances but it does not address the financial aspects of keeping Kovalchuk,” the report says.

Brodeur has a full no-trade clause, and told NorthJersey.com he would know if a deal were happening long before anyone else.

“I have my fate in my own hands,” the 38-year-old said. “I think we’ve made it pretty clear with the organization and they’ve made it pretty clear with me that I would know about it long before it would ever get in the newspapers—if it ever were to happen. And I doubt it’s ever going to happen.”
