U.S. soccer star Landon Donovan wins back wife

Soccer stud Landon Donovan scored twice this week — winning a crucial World Cup match for Team USA and winning back the heart of his estranged actress wife, Bianca Kajlich, pals of the couple said.

“It would surprise no one if Landon and Bianca were back together very soon,” a friend of the sexy “Rules of Engagement” star told People magazine in a story published yesterday.

Moments after booting in the winning goal against Algeria on Wednesday, Donovan stared straight at the camera during a postgame interview and said, “Hi, Bianca!”

And if that weren’t proof enough that he had kick-started their old relationship, the red-white-and-blue hero then blew her a kiss.

“I’ve carried her with me through this tournament. And she’s been a part of this with me. I’m lucky to have her,” Donovan, 28, said at a press conference later.

Donovan kept the good feelings flowing with his not-yet-ex in what the magazine described as an “emotional phone call.”

“We spoke last night. It was nice,” Donovan said yesterday without revealing any details.

Kajlich’s friend told People, “The fact that Landon wanted to share his special moment with her is very significant.”

And the buddy noted that even before the romantic phone call, the couple had “remained in contact and are very close to one another.”

Donovan, a midfielder with the Los Angeles Galaxy, and sultry Kajlich, 33, were married on New Year’s Eve 2006.

But in July 2009, they announced an “amicable” separation.

At the postgame press conference, he called the split the most painful moment of his life.

As recently as this month, right before the World Cup tournament started, Donovan referred to “my now-ex-wife Bianca.”

But Donovan now appears to be backtracking on the idea of ending their marriage.

“We are not officially divorced,” he told Yahoo! Sports.

Even when he was calling Kajlich his “ex,” Donovan had made clear how fond he remained of the dark-tressed stunner.

Bianca, he said several weeks ago, “taught me more about myself than I’ve ever known, and continues to do that.”

And, Donovan added, even the difficult stretches of their marriage had helped him grow.

“Sometimes you learn more from those moments than anything,” he said. “For me, that was certainly the case. It doesn’t have to be something ugly or nasty. It can be helpful, and you can grow from it.

“That is what we both took from it.”

Pressed Wednesday on whether he would get back together with Bianca, the daring Donovan played coy for once.

“What is this, ‘Access Hollywood’?” he quipped.
