Father who killed family to be buried with sons

A Dutchess County man who slaughtered his family in a triple murder-suicide will be buried alongside the two sons he killed last week, The Post has learned.

Funeral services for Abbas Lodhi and his two kids Zain, 9, and Mujtaba, 13, will be held this Saturday at Schaefer Funeral Home in Sunset Park, while the body of Lodhi’s slain wife Sarwat will be flown to Canada, according to funeral director Pat Marmo.

Abbas Lodhi’s mother and sister reside in Brooklyn, with other family members traveling as far as England to attend the funerals. Burial arrangements have not yet been finalized.

Sometime between last Wednesday and Thursday, Lodhi, a 49-year-old pharmacist, used a shotgun to first kill Mujtaba in the family’s Pleasant Valley home before turning the gun on his younger son and then himself inside an SUV found in a mall parking lot.

The body of Sarwat Lodhi, 43, was discovered Friday beside a road in Wappingers Falls, 13 miles south of the family’s home. An autopsy revealed the mother had been shot twice, once in the hands and another in the chest, the Poughkeepsie Journal reported.

Abbas Lodhi and the two boys suffered single gunshot wounds to the chest. The motive for the killings is unclear.

The Lodhi family moved from Pakistan to the US to become citizens in the 1990s.
