Favre to meet league official next week, says Goodell

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre will meet an NFL official next week as part of an ongoing investigation into the player’s conduct two years ago, the NFL Network reported today.

According to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, Favre will be questioned on Tuesday about allegations he sent a lewd text message to a female employee of the New York Jets when he was with the club in 2008.

The NFL has not decided whether Favre has a case to answer but does have strict rules governing the conduct of players and can levy fines or suspensions if they are found to have breached the guidelines.

“The first thing you want to do is find out the facts, and that’s what we’re trying to do,” Goodell said earlier this week. “Once we determine those facts, then we’ll determine what the next step is from there, if any.”

On Saturday, Goodell told the NFL Network that a member of the league’s security team would meet with Favre in Minnesota.

Although Goodell is not planning to attend the meeting, he was prepared to do so if required.

Favre, who has started a record 289 consecutive regular-season games in the NFL, has been listed as questionable for Minnesota’s game against the Dallas Cowboys tomorrow.

The 41-year-old quarterback has been hampered by tendinitis in his right shoulder for several weeks and has had limited participation in team practice over the last few days.
