Teammates of the Pace University football player mortally wounded by po lice gunfire were pre vented from giving him CPR — and two others were Tasered during the chaotic aftermath of a Westchester bar brawl, two lawyers charged yes terday.
Bonita Zelman, a lawyer for one of the young men, said that when a player begged a cop to let him give aid to Danroy “DJ” Henry Sunday, the officer put a gun against his ribs and threatened to shoot him before arresting him.
“It’s frankly incompre hensible how the circum stance got to where it got,” Zelman said.
Henry was shot as he tried to drive from Fin negan’s bar following a fight that had spilled onto the street.
Police also shot Hen ry’s best friend, Brandon Cox, who was in the car, and prevented him from trying to revive his pal, said civil-rights lawyer Michael Sussman, who has been hired by Hen ry’s family.
Cops also Tasered and arrested two other teammates after the shooting, both lawyers said.
Mount Pleasant Po lice Chief Louis Alagno said he was unaware that a cop had threat ened to shoot one of Henry’s teammates, but earlier had said officers followed proper procedure by handcuffing everyone who had been in the car because the cops were treating the situation as a “felony vehicle stop.”
The shocking new allegations emerged as US Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.), said, “We’re going to ask for an investigation, obviously, a thorough investigation,” of the police killing of Henry, who is from North Easton, Mass.
“. . . I think it’s important to get the facts and get them quickly,” Brown told a Massachusetts radio station.
Mount Pleasant cops, New York State Police and the Westchester District Attorney’s Office are conducting an intensive probe of the shooting.
Henry, 20, was shot by police because the Pace junior allegedly drove his car into two officers while pulling out of a fire lane outside the bar.
Sussman said cops’ version of events have been “at least severely contradicted if not entirely refuted.”
He said witnesses claim that Henry began driving off after a cop ordered him to do so — and that another officer sprang in front of the car, gun drawn, and began firing.
Sussman also said that after the young men were shot in the car, Cox got out and saw Henry get dragged into the street and handcuffed — lying there for up to 15 minutes without receiving medical attention.
