Shinnecocks eyeing potential Long Island casino site

The Shinnecock Indian Nation says it is considering a 144-acre property for a possible casino site.

Tribal trustee Lance Gumbs tells Newsday the land is attractive because it is close to the Long Island Expressway. He said it’s also much larger than land around the Nassau Coliseum and other properties the tribe has looked at.

The Plainview site is owned by New York Islanders owner Charles Wang.

The tribe expects to complete its site selection by the end of the year.

Wang purchased the property in 2000 to develop a mixed-use development, a project he later abandoned.

Michael Picker, who oversees Wang’s real estate holdings, would not comment. County officials also declined comment.
