Here’s a player by player look at the 2010-11 Knicks roster:
Wilson Chandler, F
Age: 23; HT: 6-8; WT: 225
Plays many positions but masters none. A natural power forward, doesn’t have shooter’s mentality for SG position.
Toney Douglas, PG/SG
Age: 24; HT: 6-2; WT: 185
Had great offseason, is super quick for speedball attack, strips ball like Walt Frazier and makes for potential electric pairing with Raymond Felton.
Raymond Felton, PG
Age: 26; HT: 6-1; WT: 205
Gives Knicks upgrade at PG after Duhon years but reported to camp out of shape and didn’t excel.
Landry Fields, SG/SF
Age: 22; HT: 6-7; WT: 210
Steal at 39th pick of draft. Pressing for starting SG guard with hustle, smarts and grittiness. Needs to hit corner 3.
Danilo Gallinari, F
Age: 22; HT: 6-11; WT: 225
Back no longer an issue but his tenacity for 82 games is. Best outside shooter on team with potential to set franchise’s 3-point shooting mark but still can’t post up.
Timofey Mozgov, C
Age: 24; HT: 7-1; WT: 250
Russian rookie made starting lineup and coaches drool about his soft shooting and dynamic play on fast break. Must rebound better and score in post.
Anthony Randolph, F
Age: 21; HT: 6-11; WT: 230
Was a preseason dud after huge expectations as key piece in David Lee deal. But he’s just 21 and athleticism off the charts.
Amar’e Stoudemire, PF/C
Age: 27; HT: 6-10; WT: 240
Dominated in preseason, unstoppable on forays to the hoop, getting to line and making them. But should receive double and triple teams once season begins.
Ronny Turiaf, F/C
Age: 27; HT: 6-10; WT: 245
Lovable big man gives team energy lift but has hands of stone and no shooting touch.
Bill Walker, SG/SF
Age: 23; HT: 6-6; WT: 230
Had under-the-radar camp, drilling enough 3-pointers to land rotation spot.
The rest:
Kelenna Azubuike, SG; Eddy Curry, C; Roger Mason Jr., SG/PG; Andy Rautins, PG/SG; Shawne Williams, SF
