Awful Giants cost Seattle car dealership $420,000

Jim Johnson obviously hasn’t seen the Giants play too often this year.

Johnson, one of the owners of a Jet Chevrolet dealership in a Seattle suburb, offered a promotion in which 12 people would win $35,000 if the Seahawks shut out the Giants.

Seattle’s league-best defense did just that, cruising to a 23-0 victory at MetLife Stadium while intercepting Eli Manning five times.

“This is crazy,” Johnson said of the deal that will cost them $420,000, according to ESPN.com.  “We never expected that we’d actually be giving away the money.”

The winners will be decided in a lottery – the 20 people who purchased a car between Wednesday and Saturday received 100 entries, while those who simply signed up at the dealership received one entry.

The dealership located in Federal Way, Wash. ran ads on local radio stations and in the newspaper. They wanted to run it last week for the Seahawks game against the 49ers, which they lost 19-17, but had to make sure such a promotion would be legal.

“We’re a car dealership, we’re not used to doing something like this,” Johnson said.
