Michigan woman sues over misleading ‘Drive’ trailer

NOVI, Mich. — A Michigan woman is suing the distributor of the movie “Drive” and the theater where she saw it because its trailer made it look like more of an action film than it is.

The lawsuit filed by Sarah Deming says distributor FilmDistrict marketed “Drive” as “very similar to the ‘Fast and the Furious,’ or similar, series of movies,” TV station WDIV-TV reported.

The actual film “bore very little similarity to a chase, or race action film … having very little driving in the motion picture,” the suit alleges.

“Drive” stars Ryan Gosling as a Hollywood stunt driver who moonlights as a getaway driver for criminals. Albert Brooks, Carey Mulligan, Ron Perlman, “Breaking Bad” star Bryan Cranston and Christina Hendricks of “Mad Men” also appear in the film.

Deming’s lawsuit goes on to say that the film “substantially contained extreme gratuitous dehumanizing racism directed at members of the Jewish faith, and thereby promoted criminal violence against members of the Jewish faith.”

The suit also names the Emagine Novi Theater in Novi, Mich., where Deming saw “Drive.”

She is seeking a refund of her ticket price, and intends to turn the case into a class action suit to end misleading movie trailers, according to WDIV.
