NJ cops charged in prisoner beating

HACKENSACK, N.J. — Three northern New Jersey police officers have been indicted by a Bergen County grand jury.

Hackensack Officer Anthony Ferraioli of Paramus was accused of hitting a man twice on the head during an arrest June 7. He was charged with aggravated assault and other crimes in the indictment handed up late Thursday.

Two other Hackensack officers, Alberto Gutierrez and Richard Sellitto, were accused of helping Ferraioli cover up the alleged assault, which prosecutors say occurred when police went to Hackensack residence to question a man about another assault that occurred in Paramus.

Gutierrez and Sellitto were charged with official misconduct and other crimes. Sellitto’s sister, Dana, stands accused of helping cover up the officers’ behavior.

Ferraioli’s lawyer, Patrick Toscano, called the indictment “ridiculous.”
