GOP front-runner Mitt Romney will pick up an endorsement today from a Staten Island Republican who says the country desperately needs new leadership.

Rep. Michael Grimm says he’s backing the former Massachusetts governor because of his private-sector and executive experience.

“The single most thing this country is starving for is leadership,” Grimm said. “At a time when growing the economy and creating jobs is imperative to the future of our nation, Governor Romney brings the necessary skills and hands-on experience to get the job done.”

Grimm’s endorsement comes just days after the freshman congressman’s political mentor, Staten Island GOP power broker Guy Molinari, announced he was backing Romney.

Molinari was the chairman of Grimm’s congressional campaign last year, when he ousted Democratic incumbent Mike McMahon.

Molinari said he and Grimm had several conversations about the presidential race.

“We have to close ranks,” Molinari said.
