NYPD says skeleton found in Staten Island basement was result of homicide

Police say a skeleton found in a basement crawl space of a Staten Island home last month has been determined to be that of a human.

Police say the medical examiner on Tuesday deemed the death a homicide.

Police say the skeleton was discovered on Sept. 1. They say the homeowner was pumping out water from the basement due to Tropical Storm Irene when he came upon the remains.

Police say the space was unearthed due to the water.

The investigation is continuing.

There have been no arrests.
