Richie Incognito: Martin was suicidal

Richie Incognito is not going quietly.

The former Dolphins offensive lineman, embroiled in a raging controversy over his treatment of and abusive behavior toward then-teammate and fellow lineman Jonathan Martin, broke what had been nearly three months of relative silence Wednesday with a series of blistering tweets, most notably revealing Martin had contemplated suicide before their supposed friendship unraveled.

Incognito ranted about being “railroaded” and blamed a Martin representative for releasing a voicemail in which Incognito directed racial and sexual language at Martin, saying they had laughed about the scandalous message with teammate Brian Hartline.

“Dear Jon Martin….. The truth is going to bury you and your entire ‘camp,’ ” Incognito wrote. “You could have told the truth the entire time.”

Martin walked out on the Dolphins in late October, seeking help for mental health issues brought on by Incognito’s alleged harsh treatment. The Dolphins suspended Incognito for conduct detrimental to the team. Miami recently lifted the suspension and Incognito is set to become an unrestricted free agent on March 11.

“I’m ready to move on with my life and career,” Incognito wrote in the first of his bitter tweets. “I’ve been dragged through the mud for months by my ‘best friend.’ ’’

The NFL reached out to attorney Ted Wells to oversee a probe into the Incognito-Martin affair.

There were more bombshell tweets by Incognito:

“I apologize to all of the women out there that I offended with my text messages to my close personal friend.”

“I’m guilty of being a loyal friend and good teammate. I apologize for my poor language and rude remarks. I’ve never denied it.”

Incognito saved some venom for Martin’s representative, Kenny Zuckerman, who Incognito accused of leaking an obscene, vulgar voice mail directed at Martin to ESPN:

“Kenny Zuckerman from Priority Sports…. What do you have to say for your actions? Why did you release the VM. What was your goal?”

“Jon Martin—you started all of this when Kenny Zuckerman released the VM to ESPN. The same VM we joked about with @brianhartline.
