Shooter gets 23 years in killing over hair-weave beef

The Brooklyn gunman who shot dead another man in a street fight — sparked when his own girlfriend mocked the hair weave worn by his victim’s gal pal — was sentenced to 23 years behind bars Tuesday by a judge who slammed the slaying as “foolish” and “senseless.”

Denzel Holder, 21, was convicted of manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon on Feb. 11, 2014, for gunning down Shawn Williams, 19, in the August 2011 Crown Heights beef that started when Holder’s girlfriend made fun of Williams’ gal pal’s hair extensions.

“It started with a group of women who were having a foolish argument over a hair weave and progressed to a bottle-throwing fight,” said Brooklyn Supreme Court judge Alan Marrus. “And it eventually involved Mr. Holder and Shawn Williams, and Mr. Holder — out of the blue — took a gun and shot and killed Shawn Williams. What a senseless and tragic incident.”

Williams’ mom gave an emotional victim impact statement asking that Holder be hit with the maximum sentence.

“He had dreams of having a family and getting married, but Mr. Holder robbed him of that,” said Dierdra Haynes, 51. “I’m asking that there is no sympathy for Mr. Holder because he had none for my son.

Holder gave a half-hearted apology to his victim’s family.

“I can’t imagine how you feel,” he said. “I would like to express my sincere apologies for your loss.”

After he was sentenced Holder gave a dramatic yawn as he was handcuffed and led out of court.

The Brooklyn jury that convicted Holder of manslaughter in February called the killing “stupid” and “ridiculous.”
