The price fan paid to save Buttfumble jersey from Jets haters

Most Jets fans would like to forget about the “Buttfumble,” erase it from memory. Jake Hendrickson is in the minority.

Hendrickson, a Gang Green fan from California, actually spent $820 in an online NFL auction to purchase the jersey worn by former Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez when he ran into the butt of offensive lineman Brandon Moore and coughed up the football to be returned for a touchdown by the Patriots’ Steven Gregory in an embarrassing 2012 Thanksgiving night loss to the Patriots.

“The second I realized what it was I knew I had to have it,” Hendrickson told Yahoo! Sports. “Almost for macabre reasons. The amount of ridicule I have received from friends regarding that play and me being a diehard Jets fan out in California especially. There’s no way I could let it get in the hands of an anti-fan or something of that manner to be shoved in our face.”

Hendrickson said he will likely put the jersey in a frame and hang it on his wall until the Jets win a Super Bowl. He has one other idea.

“I can get together enough money to put it on a rocket ship and shoot it to outer space because I don’t think it belongs on this planet anymore,” he joked.
