BRAWLGAME

BRAWLGAMEThere’s still plenty of fight left in the Mets. That point was abundantly clear during today’s fifth inning at Shea Stadium, when the benches twice emptied with the Mets leading the Marlins 9-0 – and John Maine working on a no-hitter.

After Lastings Milledge hit his second homer of the game and Jose Reyes had doubled, Marlins reliever Harvey Garcia threw behind Luis Castillo, who shot an angry glare toward the pitcher. Both teams spilled onto the field, but no punches were thrown and order was quickly restored.

Moments later, it got uglier. During a pitching change, Reyes, standing at third base, motioned to Marlins catcher Miguel Olivo, who charged toward Reyes and threw a left hook that was intercepted by third base coach Sandy Alomar Sr.

The teams spilled onto the field again, and several players had to be restrained. Olivo was ejected. When order was restored, the Mets scored another run to go ahead 10-0.
