Chelsea Clinton is pregnant with first child

She did promise that 2014 would be the “year of the baby.”

Chelsea Clinton, 34, announced at an event for her mother Hillary Clinton in New York today that she’s pregnant with her first child.

“I just hope that I will be as good a mom to my child and hopefully children as my mom was to me,” Chelsea said, while her husband Marc Mezvinsky stood in the back of the room.

“Marc and I are very excited that we have our first child arriving later this year and I certainly feel all the better, whether it’s a girl or a boy, that she or he will grow up in a world full of so many strong female leaders.”

Hillary chimed in that she’s “really excited” for her first grandchild.

Chelsea announced in October that she and her husband Mezvinsky “were going to make 2014 the year of the baby.” Around February, she started sporting a suspicious baby bump.

The only daughter of former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton recently hinted that she may follow in her parents’ footsteps and pursue a career in politics.

“If at some point that weren’t the case, and I didn’t support my mayor or my city councilwoman or my congressman or either of my senators — and I’m lucky to live in a state where I have lots of women representing me, you know — maybe then I’d have to ask and answer the question for myself, and come to a different answer,” she told FastCompany in an interview.
