LEYRITZ LOBBIES FOR JOB

Ex-Yankee Jim Leyritz is openly campaigning to come back as a coach under new manager Joe Girardi.

Leyritz told The Post yesterday that he contacted Yankees general manager Brian Cashman repeatedly in the past week about a possible coaching spot. Leyritz, known as “The King,” played nine seasons with the Yankees from 1990-2000.

Leyritz said he would have had a better chance had the Yankees chosen Don Mattingly instead of Girardi, who snubbed Leyritz without explanation for a job on Girardi’s Florida Marlins staff in 2006.

“I would have been in (as a Yankees coach) for sure with Donnie, but I’m not really sure with Joe because of what happened in Florida,” Leyritz said. “I would love to be the first-base coach and work with the pitchers. I’d be perfect for that.”
