WHO’S A BIGGER THREAT — VETS . . . OR DEMS?

THE ISSUE: The Dept. of Homeland Security’s warning about military vets as a potential threat.

***

I am surprised that we ever survived as a country with all those “terrible” veterans from World War II, Korea and Vietnam living in our midst (“The Vet ‘Threat,’ ” Ralph Peters, PostOpinion, April 16).

The last time I looked, the veterans from past wars turned out to be pretty good citizens.

It’s too bad that the really dangerous people now in control of our government and media have decided to attack America’s real heroes — our military and our veterans.

If anyone had a doubt that Obama’s administration would be motivated by an extreme left-wing view of America, the Department of Homeland Security report, labeling anyone holding conservative views a potential domestic terrorist, should dispel it.

DHS’s siccing of the police on conservatives is essentially the same tactic that has been used to oppress conservative students sentenced to gulags, also known as college campuses.

Until DHS officials and college presidents responsible for violating the civil rights of conservatives are marched in handcuffs to jail, the left wing will continue its assault on freedom of speech in America.

Our empty suit of a president should be ashamed for appointing Janet “The Disgrace” Napolitano as secretary of Homeland Security.

Napolitano does not want to describe the mass murderers who attacked the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on 9/11 as terrorists.

On the other hand, with her approval, Napolitano’s department has released a report describing our military veterans as “potential” members of “terrorist groups.” There’s no hesitation to use the T-word there.

Our military veterans should be profusely thanked for the difficult work they do in protecting our country.

As for Obama and Napolitano, they are just two more examples of why leftists should never be trusted with national security.

One thing you have to give Obama and Napolitano credit for is that when they attack, they don’t pull any punches.

As Ralph Peters aptly displays, not only do they seek to destroy their Republican Party opponents by maliciously dubbing them “right-wing extremists,” thus equating them with fanatical bigots, but they also slur and demean our patriotic military by implying that they are unable to peacefully be integrated back into society.

Now we must all wait and wonder what the next “change” to come out of Washington will be.

The potentially most liberal administration yet hasn’t wasted much time in going after the military.

I guess you can’t be considered a liberal if you don’t loathe or demonize the military. After all, the only thing the military does is break things, kill innocent people and annoy our “friends.”

With this government steering the ship, it’s going to be a sad journey for America.

As usual, Peters goes after the meat of the issue — this overeagerness to paint those who sacrifice as less intelligent and easily manipulated by the forces of the radical right.

Add to that the lack of proof, and you have a document that seeks to subtly change the perceptions of its target audience: the law-enforcement community and employers.

It’s tough enough to get employers to seriously consider hiring transitioning service members. A DHS document like this, through slander and innuendo, enables those who would discriminate to have cover from a government organization charged with protecting the nation.

This is a dangerous document.
