DOCS ORGAN-IZE AS DONORS

New York’s “top doctors” have signed up as organ donors through a new state registry.

The doctors led the way under a new state law that allows New Yorkers to give legal consent to donate organs and tissues after death, State Health Commissioner Richard Daines and City Health Commissioner Thomas Frieden announced yesterday.

Previously, residents could express an intent to donate, which relatives could override. Donors in the old registry must re-enroll to ensure their wish is honored.
