DEATH PUZZLE IN BROOKLYN

An elderly man and a much younger women, whom neighbors described as his girlfriend, were found mysteriously dead yesterday in his ramshackle Brooklyn home.

Police did not immediately classify the deaths as murders, but a law-enforcement source said two men were seen fleeing from the building in a car.

Cops, responding to a report of a burglary, found the man submerged in the bathtub in his apartment on Bay Parkway near 80th Street in Bensonhurst.

A plastic bag and a cloth were found in the bathroom. The father of two, in his 70s, used to be the building’s landlord.

“He was a good man,” said a woman who identified herself as his ex-wife. “I’m in shock.”

Investigators discovered the woman, in her 30s, lying in a bed in the first-floor apartment with her pants around her ankles.

Sources said there was no electricity in the apartment and the couple was living by flashlight.

A neighbor, Svetelana Rashevskiy, 38, said she last saw her former landlord — whom acquaintances said was in debt — two days ago.
