TEACH UNIONS IN TALKS ON TENURE

The state’s top education official said yesterday that she is in “deep conversation” with the teachers unions to make student test scores a part of teacher evaluations.

Merryl Tisch, chancellor of the Board of Regents, which sets state education policy, confirmed discussions on the issue with the New York State United Teachers and United Federation of Teachers.

Last year, the teachers unions effectively killed both an effort by the city Department of Education to include test scores in tenure evaluations, and a commission that was to study the issue.
