Joba’s mom faces prison for drugs

LINCOLN, Neb. — The mother of New York Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain faces up to 20 years in a Nebraska prison on a felony drug-sale charge.

On Monday in Lincoln, Jackie Standley pleaded no contest to delivery of a controlled substance. Sentencing is set for Dec. 16, pending a recommendation from a drug and alcohol treatment center.

Lincoln police say the 44-year-old Standley was arrested in May after selling a gram of methamphetamine to an undercover officer at her Lincoln apartment.

After learning of the arrest two days later, Chamberlain said in New York that he hadn’t spoken with Standley in a while.

He said, “You’ve only got one mom, man, and you’ve got to be thankful for her.”

Chamberlain played college baseball for the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
