Haiti’s nightmare, US’s response

THE ISSUE: Tuesday’s powerful earthquake in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

Of course it’s the United States that immediately stepped up and is leading the way in sending massive aid to the devastated people of Haiti (” ‘Thousands’ Dead in Haiti Horror Quake,” July 13).

We were expected to come through and we did.

Let your heart go out to the citizens of that unfortunate country and be proud to be an American.

Isn’t it great that we have a president who right away speaks about an earthquake in another country but doesn’t speak for days about a terrorist attack on our country?

I am an American citizen, and I am very concerned about Haiti and my heart goes out to the country.

Why is Mayor Bloomberg on TV, asking for support from us when he should be the first to reach into his pocket to send money to help?

Bloomberg has the inside connections and resources to do so, and then we will know who to send our money to without the fear of sending it to a made-up organization.

Once again, current events prove how much Hollywood is out of touch with reality.

James Cameron’s “Avatar” presents the pagan-like worship of nature and anti-militarism as its themes.

Now, nature has destroyed much of the island nation of Haiti, and the US military will be front-row center to provide humanitarian relief and save the day.

What a difference a real president makes.

President Obama is getting aid into Haiti faster than Bush got aid into New Orleans.

It is disheartening that it takes a horrific earthquake for the world to notice and do something about the desperate plight of Haiti, one of the poorest countries in the world.
