This ‘Hamlet’ sucks

For the audience that believes “Hamlet” could use a few more vampires and a subplot about the Holy Grail, the slapdash comedy “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Undead” could be a tonic.

An unemployed theater director (Jake Hoffman) living in a room off his doctor father’s office gets an odd offer to direct a vampire-themed “Hamlet” production written by a creepy impresario (John Ventimiglia), who seems to be driven wild by the sight of bare female necks. He also has a thing for the director’s ex-girlfriend (Devon Aoki), who has lately been dating a mobster (Ralph Macchio).

This loopy farce has the feel of a wacky off-off-Broadway play with more energy than wit, but it has its moments. And the laid-back acting of Hoffman (son of Dustin) just about holds it together.
