W-hoops! Mike out of bounds

Mayor Bloomberg shot an air ball yesterday in the city’s first big pitch to free-agent hoops star LeBron James.

In a video posted on the city’s Web site, Bloomberg said: “Willis on one leg, Clyde with the steal, Dr. J soaring from the line — C’mon, LeBron, write the next chapter in NYC basketball history.”

Bloomberg went 2 for 3 in recalling great city basketball imagery, recounting Willis Reed’s courageous limp in the 1970 NBA Finals and Walt “Clyde” Frazier’s defense.

Then Hizzoner stepped on it — specifically the Nassau County border — when he cited Julius Erving.

Dr. J played with the New York Nets at Nassau Coliseum before moving to Jersey, but he is most known as a Philadelphia 76er.

City Hall said Erving was cited was because the Nets plan to move to Brooklyn.

Meanwhile, President Obama flipped-flopped yesterday and said LeBron should stay in Cleveland, after suggesting last week he should play for Obama’s hometown Chicago Bulls.
