Tax returns show Bloomberg’s investments better in ’09

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg made more money on his investments in 2009 than the previous year.

That’s according to Bloomberg’s heavily redacted tax returns and other financial documents released Friday.

The papers provide a vague picture of his finances but do not tell how much money he has or earns.

The billionaire mayor, who is serving his third term in office, refuses to release his actual tax returns. Reporters are allowed to examine copies where dollar amounts are replaced with letter codes representing broad ranges.

On Friday, the city also released his annual financial disclosure report about his investments, assets and income.

The papers show Bloomberg earned a few thousand dollars through a lease arrangement for one of his daughter’s horses, and he put money into a trust for his ex-wife.
