Red-eyed, “muttering” and reeking of marijuana, NFL quarterback Chris Simms was busted yesterday in the West Village for allegedly driving stoned with his 8-months-pregnant wife in the passenger seat.

Simms, 29, the son of New York Giants legend Phil Simms, immediately ‘fessed up to his drug use when police stopped his 2009 Mercedes at a West Houston Street checkpoint at around 1 a.m., authorities said.

“I was smoking marijuana in the car earlier,” the Tennessee Titans quarterback told cops, according to prosecutor Lauren Perry.

Chris Simms — who has a 4-year-old daughter, Sienna Rose — smelled of marijuana and had red eyes, a flushed face and slurred speech, sources told The Post.

“He was muttering,” a source said.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said Simms “made some statements about the fact that he had smoked marijuana, and that he had smoked all of it. There was no evidence left.”

No drugs were found on Simms or in the car, and his wife, Danielle, 29, was eventually allowed to drive off.

Simms, who lives in Nashville, was charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired by marijuana, a misdemeanor that carries a maximum fine of $1,000 and up to one year in jail.

“My client never admitted to smoking marijuana that night. He said he was smoking cigarettes that night,” insisted his lawyer, Nathan Semmel, who claims two other passengers were in the car and are “responsible for the marijuana odor.”

But police sources insisted to The Post that only Simms and his wife were in the car at the time of the stop.

Simms turned down a prosecution deal to pay a $500 fine, serve three days’ community service and have his license revoked for six months.

He was released without bail.

“There’s nothing I’d like to say,” a grinning Simms told reporters after rejoining his wife following the arraignment. “I think [the court proceeding] speaks for itself.”

“It’s very weak,” he said of the prosecution’s case.

Titan spokesman Robbie Bohren said, “We are aware of the reports, and are in the process of gathering more information.”

Simms was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2003 and this April signed a one-year contract with the Titans. He has also played for the Denver Broncos.

His father, Phil, is now the top football analyst with CBS Sports.
