A deranged man stabbed four people in an apparent random attack in Chelsea this afternoon, authorities said.
“The guy was crazy, he looked like he had rabies or something,” said James Ortiz.
The mayhem began shortly before 6 p.m. when the suspect, dressed in a green shirt and black pants, started stabbing and slashing people Salsa dancing on the street.
“He had a real wild look in his eye when he pulled out the knife,” Ortiz said.
“After the first man got stabbed, several people jumped in, as I did, and we tried to put him down.”
One man was slashed across the face and another had the 4-inch blade briefly stuck in his shoulder before the attacker pulled it back out, Ortiz said.
The good Samaritans subdued him until police arrived a few minutes later.
All victims were rushed to Bellevue Hospital. None of the injuries appeared to be life threatening.
