Pols: Probe BP-Libya link

The four senators from New York and New Jersey yesterday asked the State Department to investigate whether BP played a role in winning last year’s release of the man convicted of the Lockerbie airliner bombing.

BP signed a $900 million exploration agreement with Libya in May 2007, the same month Britain and Libya inked a memorandum that paved the way for Abdel Baset al al-Megrahi’s release from a Scottish prison.

Officials said at the time he would die of cancer within months, but doctors now say said he could live another decade.
