Crazed woman in custody after foiled kidnapping attempt

A woman who tried to snatch a baby boy from a stroller as his nanny took him for a walk in Chelsea was busted Friday, cops said.

The nanny was pushing the 8-month-old in a stroller along Eighth Avenue near 17th Street about 3:45 p.m. Thursday when Tara Anne McDonald, 46, tried to take the carriage, cops said.

A UPS driver ran over and intervened and McDonald fled south on Eighth, cops added.

“She grabbed the stroller by the handle, and without no reason, starts saying ‘Give me my baby,’” the UPS driver told WABC TV.

“I told the lady, leave her alone, get off, are you out of your mind?”

McDonald was taken into custody Friday evening and was given a psych exam, cops said.

Neither the baby nor the nanny was harmed.

McDonald has a long rap sheet — including seven prior arrests for attempted kidnapping — and served more than a year behind bars in the late 1990s for an attempted snatching, sources said.
