Olbermann vs. Francesa unfolding in predictably awesome fashion

For three minutes on his late-night talk show Monday night, Keith Olbermann railed against Craig Carton and Boomer Esiason. The WFAN morning hosts had called out Olbermann and fellow ESPNer Chris Berman as bullies in their discussion of Jonathan Martin and Richie Incognito.

During the entirety of Olbermann’s “World’s Worst” segment, he squeezed in one seven-second shot at Mike Francesa. Olbermann said ESPN Radio in New York “doesn’t carry programs that people listen to so they can laugh at the host as they fall asleep.”

The “they” is Mike Francesa, who famously dozed off during an interview with Sweeny Murti last September. Despite the brevity of the remark and most of the venom being directed at the morning show hosts, those who follow such things closely suspected the true battle would come between Francesa and Olbermann.

Sure enough, this collision course of media egos would not be stopped. All was quiet for a day, but then Francesa’s callers started asking: “What about that shot Olbermann took at you?” After feigning ignorance, Francesa went on the attack.

And then this happened on Thursday night.
