Nick Brooks, the son of accused serial-raping, Oscar-winning composer Joseph Brooks, has been slapped with second-degree murder charges in the bathtub slaying of his swimsuit designer ex-girlfriend, Sylvie Cachay, at the Soho House, according to court papers.
Brooks remains jailed without bail pending his next Manhattan court appearance tomorrow.
The grand jury reached the conclusion last Wednesday, a decision to indict that was only made public today.
In court papers, the grand jury decided that Brooks “with intent to cause the death of another person, caused the death of Sylvie Cachay.”
This comes as the Medical Examiner’s office ruled last week that Cachay, 33, was killed by strangulation and drowning.
Her partially-clothed body was found in the overflowing bathtub in her room at the ritzy hotel early on Dec. 9.
Cachay — who had attended the Paris School of Art and Design and started the swimsuit line Syla — had wounds on her neck, bleeding in her eyes and a bite mark on her hand.
The elder Brooks, who wrote the schmaltzy “You Light Up My Life,” faces an 82-count indictment for allegedly raping 11 young women whom he promised to turn into movie stars.
Nick, 24, had been indicted only on strangulation charges in the slaying, a source familiar with the grand-jury proceedings told The Post.
Brooks has been behind bars since he was arrested the day after Cachay’s murder.
Friends had said she was trying to end things with him shortly before her death.
An apology note written by Brooks that was found in her purse showed he hadn’t accepted the break-up, prosecutors said.
Initial autopsy reports were not conclusive because there was the chance that she had overdosed on prescription pills and accidentally drowned.
When she checked into the Soho House, she told employees that she had taken Xanax and could barely stay awake.
A concierge had to carry her to her room and the pill bottle was found inside.
