Jets brass checks out Watkins at Clemson’s pro day

News flash: Rex Ryan (and the rest of the free world) does not think Clemson star receiver Sammy Watkins will still be on the board when the Jets are on the clock with the No. 18 pick in the NFL Draft.

Everyone knows the Jets want to add a receiver and they’d love to have Watkins.

“But there’s no way he’ll be there,’’ Ryan told the Associated Press on Thursday.

Watkins will likely be a top-10 pick and out of the reach of the Jets, but that didn’t stop Ryan, general manager John Idzik and senior director of college scouting Terry Bradway from getting a look at Watkins at Clemson’s pro day.

Ryan’s son, Seth, is a receiver at Clemson, as is Watkins and another solid prospect, Martavis Bryant, who could interest the Jets in the middle rounds. Ryan and Jim Caldwell, the Lions’ new coach, were the two NFL head coaches to attend the pro day, according to AP.
