A detective who shot and killed an unarmed national guardsman during a 2012 traffic stop was hit with departmental charges Friday, the NYPD said.
Queens ESU Detective Hassan Hamdy was charged with “failing to employ proper tactics causing a civilian’s death” for fatally shooting Noel Polanco, 22, after pulling him over on the Grand Central Parkway for erratic driving, cops said.
NYPD Sgt. Thomas Glaudino, who was in charge of Hamdy’s unit at the time, also was slapped with departmental charges.
A Queens grand jury declined to indict Hamdy last year and the citylast month reached a $2.5 million settlement with Polanco’s family.
Hamdy could be fired if he is found guilty.
