Mark-Viverito sworn in as City Council speaker

Her swearing in was so nice, the City Council speaker did it twice!

Despite having already been sworn in as a council member in December, Melissa Mark-Viverito held a second “ceremonial” inaugural as council speaker at Hostos Community College in The Bronx Wednesday.

The event was attended by Mayor de Blasio, her political BFF who pushed for her to get the gig. Her first swearing in was held at the Millbrook Houses in The Bronx.

This week, Mark-Viverito also announced a 33-member transition team to help her get set up, although she has already been in office for about three weeks.

“This committee will have a very simple goal, to help build a professional and experienced team that will reflect New York City and its values,” Mark-Viverito said.

City Hall insiders were scratching their heads about the need for a transition team since her predecessor, Christine Quinn, didn’t have one.Members of the volunteer transition team included three former borough presidents and union leaders who helped her win the post, including the former law partner of the Brooklyn Democratic boss who brokered a backroom deal to seal her victory.
