Police sgt. has fatal heart attack during Brooklyn ‘buy-and-bust’

An NYPD sergeant died of a heart attack during a buy-and-bust operation in Brooklyn this morning, law-enforcement sources said.

Sgt. Patrick Divers, 51, was in a police car in Bedford-Stuyvesant near Myrtle Avenue when he complained of chest pains and went into cardiac arrest about 10:30 a.m., sources said.

Divers, who was assigned to Brooklyn North Narcotics, died shortly after at Woodhull Hospital. He was a veteran of the force, with 25 years on the job and 18 years as a detective and sergeant in narcotics, sources added.

Sergeant Divers made more than 1,000 arrests and earned 35 recognitions in his career for Excellent and Meritorious Police Duty, cops said. He is survived by his wife, a daughter and son. Sgt. Divers was a graduate of St. John’s University.

He was married and had two children, police sources said.
