Another young woman scammed by fortune teller

A young woman was scammed out of more than $200,000 by a Manhattan fortune teller who promised to cure her of a curse, police sources said Wednesday.

Jiawei Li, 22, who lives in an ultra swanky Hell’s Kitchen apartment building, was lured into Amanda Ufie’s web of lies in January 2012, sources said.

During the next ten months, Li doled out $217,040 to the 26-year-old Ufie, who operated out of a storefront at 403 West 51 Street, the sources said.

Li turned over “property, cash, gift cards and other means” because Ufie “claimed to have the power to cleanse this individual of a curse and solicited the money to cleanse said curse,” according to a Manhattan criminal court complaint.

In January, Li walked into the Midtown North Precinct and filed a complaint against Ufie, who also goes by Amanda Petro, sources said.

Detectives launched an investigation and discovered that Ufie allegedly ripped off a “second individual” with her fortune teller scheme, court record show.

Over a two day period in January, Ufie stole $1,400 from that victim, claiming “to have the power to remove negative energy from the second individual’s body,” the complaint states.

Ufie was arrested Tuesday on charges of grand larceny and scheme to defraud.

She was held on $25,000 bail at her arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court.
