NFL: Chiefs cut Kevin Boss

Former Giants tight end Kevin Boss was cut by the Chiefs as part of their roster overhaul under new coach Andy Reid and general manager John Dorsey. Boss signed a $9 million, three-year deal last offseason, but only had three catches for 65 yards before sustaining a season-ending concussion in Week 2.

The Ravens and Joe Flacco’s agent plan to meet this weekend in their first attempt to reach a new contract. The Super Bowl MVP quarterback made less than $7 million in 2012. The highest-paid QBs are the Saints’ Drew Brees at an average of $20 million a year, and Denver’s Peyton Manning at $18 million.

The Saints cut veteran tight end David Thomas and third-year cornerback Johnny Patrick. … The NFL promoted Alberto Riveron, the league’s first Hispanic referee, to senior director of officiating.

Lauren Silberman, a 28-year-old New Yorker who played varsity soccer at Wisconsin, will be the first female player to participate in an NFL regional combine as a kicker on March 2-3 in New Jersey.
