New York featured in many Oscar-nominated films

The Big Apple played a starring role in six films up for Oscars this year.

They range from Woody Allen’s “Blue Jasmine’’ to Martin Scorsese’s “The Wolf of Wall Street” — which were among roughly 300 films shot in New York City last year.

The film and TV business brings in about $7.1 billion to the city’s economy each year, officials said.

■  Scenes from “Blue Jasmine” were filmed along Fifth and Madison avenues, where Cate Blanchett, who plays a character some believe is based on Bernie Madoff’s wife, Ruth, shops for bling at Mauboussin jewelry.

She ditches her sister and brother-in-law by sending them to the South Street Seaport. The fictional Ponzi schemer, played by Alec Baldwin, is seen lunching at the Four Seasons Restaurant.

■  Parts of “The Wolf of Wall Street’’ take place in Rao’s eatery in East Harlem, a favorite of some of the city’s most colorful real-life characters, from mobsters to politicians to entertainers.

Filming also took place at Trump Tower and at the Milan condo on East 55th Street, the fictional home of Leonardo DiCaprio’s character.

■ “American Hustle” filmed scenes at posh suites in The Plaza hotel and far less posh suites at FBI headquarters and at Surrogate’s Court.

■  “Inside Llewyn Davis,” nominated for Best Cinematography, includes scenes in Washington Square Park, Caffe Reggio and the Christopher Street subway station.

Other nominated films shot in the city are documentaries “Cutie and the Boxer” and “Dirty Wars.”
