NBA: Kobe hurts foot in Lakers’ loss
In Milwaukee, Kobe Bryant used a crutch to leave the arena after the Lakers’ latest loss. Following Los Angeles’ 113-103 loss to the Bucks last night, the Lakers said Bryant had a bone spur in his left foot. He left the arena using one crutch but appeared to be walking without any pain.
Bryant led the Lakers with 30 points, leaving him four points behind Wilt Chamberlain (31,419) for fourth place on the NBA’s career list. He played 36 1/2 minutes and did not show any signs of a difficulty during the game.
“Inflamed on me. I’ll be all right,” Bryant told Yahoo! Sports. The Lakers are eighth in the Western Conference, a half-game ahead of Utah for the final playoff spot.
NFL: Bears’ Allen signs rights tender
The Bears say running back Armando Allen has signed his exclusive rights tender.
* The Colts acquired fullback Stanley Havili in a trade with Philadelphia for defensive end Clifton Geathers; the Redskins signed free-agent linebacker Darryl Tapp; the Saints and free agent linebacker Victor Butler agreed to a two-year contract; defensive lineman Vaughn Martin signed a two-year pact with the Dolphins, and the Patriots signed free agent wide receiver Michael Jenkins.
MLB: Cardinals to wear Musial patch
The Cardinals will wear a patch on their left sleeve this season to honor the memory of Stan Musial.
* The Giants signed general manager Brian Sabean and manager Bruce Bochy to three-year contracts that will keep them with the club through the 2016 season.
* The Orioles put right-hander Chris Tillman on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left abdominal muscle.
NHL: Penguins win 14th straight
Pascal Dupuis scored twice and Evgeni Malkin had a goal in his return to the lineup, leading the Penguins to a 4-0 victory over the Jets last night in Pittsburgh for their 14th straight win. That moved the Penguins within three of their own NHL record for consecutive wins, set in the 1992-93 season.
