Double take

There are two sides to every coin — a notion few have explored better than Robert Louis Stevenson. In his tantalizing tale, the 1886 novella “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,” a gentle London doctor accidentally unleashes his wild side with disastrous results.

Lust and violence — the perfect ingredients for a Broadway musical! Enter Frank Wildhorn and Steve Cuden’s “Jekyll & Hyde,” which in 1997 bowed on Broadway where, despite withering reviews, it played more than 1,500 full-bodied performances.

And now it’s back at the Marquis Theatre, where it opens April 18 for a limited run through June 30. Shaggy “Rock of Ages” stalwart Constantine Maroulis plays the conflicted doctor, R&B star Deborah Cox is his Lucy, the stereotypical hooker with a heart of gold — and a large cast of lovelies populate that storied brothel, the Spider Club.

Which makes us wonder about the dynamic duality of women, in general: How can one look demure by day, naughty by night?

Well, this is the moment! Let this talented trio of Broadway actresses show you.

TEAL WICKS

Her role: Emma Carew, Dr. Jekyll’s warmhearted, sophisticated fiancée

Hometown: Sacramento, Calif.

‘Jekyll & Hyde’ style: “I am a big fan of vintage-inspired clothing, and I think it’s fun to mix different eras into a look, but in a subtle way by focusing on a standout piece. Of course, I have a weakness for shoes, so the Manolos in the day look are definitely the focal point. And who doesn’t love some glitz for the evening? This is what I like to call a ‘power dress’! I love the contrast of the early-’80s style of the dress with the ’20s-style finger waves in the hair.”

EMMY
RAVER-LAMPMAN

Her role: As an ensemble member, she’s variously a Spider Club dancer, a London citizen and the understudy for Lucy

Hometown: Norfolk, Va.

‘Jekyll & Hyde’ style: “I truly believe that accessories can transform an outfit. For spring, I love finding a simple, solid-color day dress and dressing it up with colorful shoes and accessories. The simplicity of the dress allows you to get creative with the jewelry. Spring nights are the perfect time for metallic pops of color. Bold jewelry, sequins and a 5-inch heel definitely make me feel ready for a night on the town!”

DANA
COSTELLO

Her role: Nellie, a “lady of the night” at the downtown London brothel Spider Club

Hometown: Mount Holly, NJ

‘Jekyll & Hyde’ style: “Both my day and night looks were very feminine — which I loved! For a good day look in the spring, I love a modern twist on a vintage silhouette. The evening look felt glamorous and sleek, but with an edgier style of hair and shoes to spice it up a bit! My favorite way to take a look into evening is with a great pair of heels and a sexy, smoky eye.”
