12,200 kids seek Success

The city’s largest charter-school network saw more than 12,200 families apply for seats at one of its 18 schools this year — nearly five applicants per open slot.

The students seeking seats at 12 current and six soon-to-open Success Academy Charter Schools include more than 20 percent English Language Learners — a group that’s been under-represented in the city’s charters for years.

“We are overwhelmed by the sheer number of families across New York City who view us as a great option to educate their children,” said Success Academy founder and CEO Eva Moskowitz.

Students were chosen for admission by a random lottery Friday, according to a network spokeswoman.
