Cablevision labor raps

The Obama administration, siding with the unions, is accusing Cablevision of illegally trying to deter employees from organizing in New York.

In a National Labor Relations Board complaint filed yesterday, Cablevision and its chief executive, James Dolan, were accused of trying to influence an election last summer in The Bronx by telling workers they’d miss job opportunities if they voted to unionize.

Dolan is also accused of giving raises to 10,000 non-Brooklyn employees to discourage unionizing, as Brooklyn workers had.

The NLRB has given the company several days to seek a settlement. In a statement, the cable giant called the charges “not accurate” and part of a union smear campaign.
