Daredevil bragged to cops about fastest lap around Manhattan

A speed demon busted for setting an unofficial record for the fastest driving lap around Manhattan bragged to cops about the feat.

“I’ve done it several times,” Adam Tang told cops on Sept. 5 of the 26.4-mile lap around Manhattan in 24 minutes and 7 seconds, according to court records made public Tuesday. “I drive fast all the time. Driving fast is normal for me…I think I could do it in 19 minutes.”

The Canadian daredevil circled the island in his 2006 BMW Z4 on Aug. 26 then posted a video documenting it all on YouTube — which quickly went viral, netting nearly 400,000 views.

Cops used the video to track down the 32-year-old day trader who lives in Harlem with his wife. He averaged about 66 miles an hour and blew through a red light during the predawn tear.

The speed fiend eagerly touted his other driving exploits to cops after his arrest. “I drove from Calgary to New York in 38 hours. That’s 4,300 miles in 38 hours,” he said. “When I go on these adventures, I accept the risks. I have gotten speeding tickets in the past. I have also had accidents.”

Although the self-proclaimed car fanatic insisted he’s a safe and skilled driver, he admitted to some bad habits. “I got a lot of issues for passing on the right,” he said. “It was never in the driving manual.”

Despite Tang’s lengthy admission to cops, he asked Justice Jill Konviser on Tuesday to reinstate his license after he pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor reckless endangerment and driving raps at his arraignment in Manhattan Supreme Court.

Defense lawyer Gregory Gomez argued that Tang is a good driver and isn’t a threat to society.

Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Mary Weisgerger disagreed.

“He made a videotape of himself circumnavigating Manhattan at a high rate of speed and he admits doing this,” she said. “He certainly should not have his license.”

Konviser blasted Tang’s conduct as “extremely dangerous” and refused to reinstate his license.

Tang rejected a plea deal of 60 days in jail, five years probation and 15 days of community service.

“We believe that jail is inappropriate in this case,” said Gomez after the court appearance. “I feel that a sensational and exciting video was made that many people around the world loved and watched.”

Tang is out on $10,000 bail and appeared in court with his wife. They declined to comment.
