‘House of Cards’ not coming to TV

Don’t expect to see Netflix’s first big series, “House of Cards,” on regular TV here anytime soon.

Netflix released the 13-episode drama starring Kevin Spacey in one fell swoop on Feb. 1 under its original deal with Media Rights Capital, from which it licenses the show’s rights. The original Netflix deal was for two seasons and 26 episodes. The second season will begin shooting shortly.

MRC owns the show’s domestic and foreign rights. Netflix has licensed the exclusive streaming rights in the US, Canada, UK, Latin America and Scandinavia and has a traditional syndication window, much like cable and broadcast series.

Media Rights Capital can sell “Cards” where Netflix is not available and has, thus far, sold “Cards” to “dozens” of markets, including TV networks in Germany (Sky Deutschland) and Spain (Canal +1) — with Japan a likely destination, according to Variety.
