‘Bump’ in revenue for Coney cars

This takes pay-one-price to a whole new level.

Coney Island’s Eldorado Auto Skooter is offering what amounts to a season-long lease of its bumper cars for $2,500.

The fee lets the “VIP pass holder” ride as often as he or she likes all summer and through November in one of its 36, 1970s-era “Bump Your Ass Off” cars, which have been hits with stars such as Liza Minnelli.

You can even pick your own vehicle and customize it, said Eldorado owner Gordon Lee.

“It’s like buying a luxury box at Madison Square Garden or Barclays Center,” Lee said.

Eldorado is one of 11 Coney Island businesses using the crowd-sourcing Web site LuckyAnt.com to help raise money through advance payments to cover repairs after Hurricane Sandy. Others include Coney Island USA and Lola Star Boutique.

Eldorado is also offering other discounts through the site, such as 25 rides for $100.

Bumper-car rides, which last three minutes, normally cost $7 apiece. Minnelli loved the bumper cars so much that the old Studio 54 disco club even tried to recreate them in its basement for her, but ran into spacing problems.

Based on that rate, a person would have to ride at least 358 times to benefit from the VIP discount.

Lee said the 40-year-old business suffered $250,000 in damages from Sandy, and he has made more than $100,000 in repairs. He reopened in March.
