Brad Pitt’s mom, Jolie’s brother applaud double mastectomy

After Brad Pitt applauded his longtime partner Angelina Jolie for her “heroic” double mastectomy, his mom and Jolie’s brother joined the actress’ chorus of praises.

Pitt’s mother Jane voiced her support for her soon-to-be daughter-in-law.

“We’re so very proud of Angie, this means so much to our family – especially our grandchildren. We love her dearly,” Jane Pitt said in a statement, according to People.

Jolie’s brother, James Haven, whom she famously kissed on the lips when she won her Best Supporting Actress Oscar, praised his sister’s selflessness.

“My sister like our mother always put her children first,” Haven said in a statement obtained by People. “I am so grateful to be her brother.”

Jolie revealed Tuesday that she had a double mastectomy after learning that she had an 87 percent risk of breast cancer and a 50 percent risk of ovarian cancer.

Jolie explained in the New York Times op-ed in which she detailed her saga that she inherited a “faulty gene,” BRCA1, which puts her at a greatly higher risk of cancer.

Jolie wrote in the op-ed that she “started with the breasts” because her risk of breast cancer was higher and that surgery is more complex, suggesting that she also intends to address her risk of ovarian cancer.

Jolie is planning to undergo surgery to remove her ovaries, People reports. Some doctors recommend patients have that procedure by age 40 or when they are done having children, but it may trigger early menopause, People notes.

Jolie’s mother Marcheline Bertrand died from ovarian cancer.
