Qns. Dems to snub Liu

Queens County Democrats are gearing up to diss their home-borough guy, John Liu, in favor of backing City Council Speaker Christine Quinn next week, several sources told The Post.

The party, which has deep ties to Liu and Quinn, was split on its mayoral endorsement before two Liu aides were found guilty in a federal campaign-finance fraud trial this month, sources said.

Now Rep. Joe Crowley, who heads the party, is preparing to back Quinn, who would not have become speaker of the City Council in 2006 without Queens County’s support.

Crowley could not be reached for comment, and an aide to Liu said, “You might want to check your sources there.”

One Queens Democratic source said there will be district leaders pushing for Liu, regardless of Crowley’s preferences, when the party takes its vote Monday.

“There’s a lot of district leaders that have a long and deep history with John,” the source said. But “Joe’s word goes. He can’t say with a straight face that he’s going to get behind Liu.”

A Quinn spokesman declined comment.
